Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Orin collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We have kept it in plain language. By using the app you agree to the practices described here.
Who we are
Orin is a financial-news reading app operated by Orin (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Orin mobile app (the “App”) and the Orin waitlist.
Waitlist signups
When you join the waitlist, we store your email address, whether you selected the student and campus-ambassador options, and the time you signed up. We use this information to manage the waitlist and contact you about Orin’s launch or campus ambassador opportunities. We do not sell your personal information. You can remove your signup at any time on the Leave the waitlist page. Removal is immediate and is not identity-verified, and we show the same message whether or not the email was on the list.
Information you provide
When you create an account and use the App you may give us:
- Account details — your name, email, and password, handled by our authentication provider. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google profile (name and email) instead of a password.
- Profile details — your avatar, bio, and @handle.
- Content you post — comments on stories, posts and shares inside groups, and your chosen interests.
- Feedback — anything you send us through the in-app feedback form, including an optional email if you add one.
Information kept on your device
Some data stays only on your device and is not uploaded to us:
- Cached copies of stories and your viewed-story history for the day.
- Your app settings — theme, text size, and notification preferences.
This data is stored only on your device and is kept separate for each account. Signing out hides it, completing account deletion in the App removes it, and uninstalling the App removes it from the device.
Information from your activity
We count real interactions to show engagement — for example, how many comments or in-app shares a story has. These counts come from actual actions, never from fabricated numbers. If you add stocks to your portfolio for the leaderboard, those holdings are stored to calculate your standing.
How we use your information
- To run the App and show your content to the right people.
- To maintain groups, friendships, watchlists, and the leaderboard.
- To respond to your feedback and support requests.
- To keep the service safe — preventing abuse and enforcing our Terms.
What is public and what is private
- Comments are public — your name and @handle are visible to everyone reading that story.
- Group posts and shares are visible to the members of that group.
- Your profile name, @handle, and avatar are visible to people you interact with.
- Your bookmarks, watchlist, and viewed history are private to you.
Third-party services
Waitlist signup details are shared with the Orin team by email using Resend.
We use HeyCatch for website and app analytics alongside Replit website analytics. HeyCatch collects page and screen views, clicks or taps, session identifiers, device and app/browser information, and confirmed product outcomes such as signups and subscription changes. It uses browser storage or app storage to recognise sessions. After sign-in, analytics is linked to your internal account ID, never your email as the identifier; email, name, plan and original signup date may be sent as account properties. We reset that identity on sign-out. We do not send passwords, authentication tokens, private post text or portfolio holdings as custom analytics properties. See HeyCatch’s privacy information.
We rely on trusted third parties to provide the App:
- An authentication provider that securely stores your account.
- Market-data and news providers that supply quotes, headlines, and economic-calendar data.
- An AI provider used to generate short story summaries.
News links out to the original publisher — we do not republish full articles. We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention and account deletion
We keep your account data while your account is active. When your account is deleted, we remove:
- Your sign-in account, profile, and account metadata.
- Your bookmarks and watchlists.
- Your portfolio holdings.
- Your friendships, shares, group memberships, likes, reports, feedback, and notifications.
- Any waitlist signup and website deletion requests matching your account email.
- Avatars and videos you uploaded.
- Stored brokerage connection credentials, and we revoke the brokerage connection.
Comments and group posts are replaced with anonymous placeholders so conversations stay readable: the author shows as “Deleted user”, the text shows as “[Deleted]”, and no handle, avatar, or attachments are kept.
If you own a group, ownership transfers to the longest-standing eligible remaining member. If you are the only member, the group and its contents are deleted.
When you complete deletion in the App, Orin’s local caches on that device are removed.
If a deletion fails partway, we keep restricted job metadata so it can be retried. After deletion completes, an opaque receipt is removed after about 24 hours.
Data in database and storage backups, and billing records that third parties or app stores are legally required to keep, are not promised to be erased instantly.
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel it in the store where you subscribed.
Your rights and choices
- Edit your profile any time from the Profile tab.
- Delete your account from Settings in the App.
- If you cannot sign in, send a manual request on the Request account deletion page. We store your email, the request time, and its status while it is pending. We check that the request comes from the account owner before deleting anything, and process verified requests within 30 days.
- Leave the waitlist at any time on the Leave the waitlist page.
- Set your notification preferences in Settings.
We do not yet send confirmation emails for website requests. Email confirmation will be added when an email service is connected.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Contact us to exercise them.
Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children, and you must meet the minimum age set out in our Terms of Service to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, and account credentials are handled by our authentication provider. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and we will surface significant changes in the App.
Contact
If you have questions about this policy or your data, reach out using the contact option in the App.
